2025 | This catalogue project focuses on the cultural translation of the development of the memorial exhibition in Mauthausen. Having served as the executive general planner for the 2015 exhibition, I intend to present this project as a ‘best practice’ example for a Japanese audience. This initiative will be carried out with the already obtained consent of the memorial\u2019s academic experts. Key topics include the organizational structure of the process, the content and design presentation, the resulting outcomes, and public reflections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a Japanese audience, however, simply translating these results visually and linguistically would be insufficient. It requires a cultural translation that considers how Japanese society interprets itself and how these specific insights can be transferred into such a community. The social and political significance of this translation only becomes clear against the backdrop of Japan\u2019s historical nation-building process; it is this context that gives the translation a meaning beyond a purely linguistic scope. To optimize this process, it is not enough to rely solely on my long-standing experience with Japanese culture and museum mediation\u2014topics covered in my dissertation. Additional insight into Austrian remembrance work over recent decades is essential to provide the Japanese public with a deeper understanding.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
