transpublic 2001-04

transpublic – space for extended art and theory exchange its fields of activity include: Space resources / transpublic and trans-artist-studio lectures, project presentations, exhibitions.

From 2001 I worked at the art space >transpublic< in Linz, Austria, as co-director, project manager and responsible for media development. At the time, the space offered a unique opportunity to present artistic projects in the centre of the city, to hold discussions or to mobilise together for cultural-political issues. the space always remained volatile for current interests and artistic concerns. Inviting guests and projects from different countries and Austasch with different interests became an essential part of the annual programme.
transpublic quickly became a hub for artistic and intellectual exchange in the city. Founded by my art school colleague Hans Kropshofer a few months earlier when I was still running my company kopilot to develop database projects.

AIR TRANS ARTIST STUDIO :: Running an Artist residency in Linz, 2003

In contrast to “artist in residence” projects, which are usually tied to an institution for a longer period of time, the trans.artist.studio offered a model in the summer of 2002 that gave interesting personalities from the nomadic art scene the opportunity to interrupt their journey for a short stopover in Linz.
The resulting opportunities for contact and action thus represented an important impulse potential for the local art scene.
But the trans.artist.studio was also to be understood as an offer to the Linz art and culture scene to make use of the accommodation on offer if required.
Whenever possible, the guests of the studio were integrated into an interview project that thematised the guest’s view of the urban fabric of Linz and cultural-political contexts.
