Created 2020 in pandemic isolation in the Swiss Alps, the work is part of the project “Prosthetic Memories”. It was originally inspired by Max Frisch’s story “Man Appears in the Holocene” which is set in the same mountains. Isolated and threatened by severe weather, the protagonist tries to evade a storm and his own dementia. With the help of countless pieces of paper, he wants to organize his memory and create a map of all knowledge that must not be lost. An escape attempt of his exile fails due heavy rain and he realizes that disasters are known only to man, nature knows no disasters.
The cape-style garment is made of historical Swiss maps that serve as the wearer’s personal armour.
